Cooperatives donate P5M for COVID vaccine
While cooperatives all over the country are reeling from the COVID-19 Crisis and yet have complied with the Government regulations promulgated by the Cooperative Development authority and with the Bayanihan 2 Act that declared a moratorium on loan payments for all lending institutions – including cooperatives.
But more importantly, co-ops have served their members and communities by striving to continue with business-as-usual, and social services like distributing cash, food packs, rice, feeding personal protective equipment to their employees and medical workers, sanitizing equipment, and more.
A highlight of the co-op movement’s outreach in the communities is that during the Cooperative Month they have stepped up their partnership with Government – by donating P5 Million.
The donation was a Sectoral effort, with co-ops contributing whatever amount it could manage.
On October 25, right before President Rodrigo Duterte was to speak before co-op leaders nationwide, Ms. Luz Yringco, CEO of Abuyog St. Francis Xavier MPC in Leyte, declared:
“The cooperative way of life of people helping people help themselves, prompts us to fearlessly and promptly respond financially, materially, spiritually and emotionally to make our members, frontliners and even non-members’ lives bearable amidst this pandemic. “
She added: “Our responsibility to care and share . . . , to be part of the solution, brought forth the sector’s resolve to come together to show the cooperative difference.”
She said the donation drive is called “Donasyon Mo, Vaccine Ko” (Your Donation, My Vaccine).
“This activity opens doors to generous and kindhearted coops to chip in – any amount – as a token of the sector’s solidarity with Government towards a Covid-free Philippines.”
“Yes, we are in this together. Our donation is just a tiny drop in an ocean of need. But co-ops will never turn away, because our giving hearts will continue to give despite our tiny purse, just like the old widow in the Gospel. We hope this gesture will make a difference in the lives of others.”
Today, the cooperatives humbly turn over this check for P5 Million to the Government thru the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) . . . hoping for more funds to come.
All cooperatives are invited to donate.
