ICA Asks Pinoy Co-ops to Display Marque

PASIG CITY –The International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) launched the “2020 Vision”, aiming to make co-ops will be 1) the acknowledged leader in economic, social and environmental sustainability, 2) the business model preferred by people, and 3) the fastest-growing form of enterprise.

One of the Strategies to attain these goals, was to “Build the co-operative message and secure the co-operative identity.”
ICA President from 2009-2015 Dame Pauleen Green emphasized the uniqueness of co-ops when she said: “Co-operatives have a powerful identity. An identity built on seven unique principles that no corporate social responsibility department in private businesses can replicate!”

But just three years before the deadline, the ICA is not at all pleased with the rate that the goals are being achieved.
At the NATCCO General Assembly and Leaders’ Congress on May 27, ICA Director for Asia-Pacific Balasubramanian Iyer told the more than 600 co-op leaders of the NATCCO Network: “We have the history, the numbers and the clout. Yet, why doesn’t the world know what we are doing?”

He therefore urged co-op leaders to use the Cooperative Marque of the ICA to establish the cooperative enterprise as a brand.

“Many co-ops (all over the world) are using it on their products.  But only 55 co-ops in the Philippines have registered on ICA’s  website www.identy.coop to use the logo!” he lamented.

He stressed that co-ops must place it on their products, signages, letterheads, publications, publicity materials, videos, website and social media accounts, much like other big businesses have done and established their identity as their logos have become recognizable icons.

The co-op Marque is regulated by the ICA, and co-ops must first register in www.identity.coop. The terms or guidelines for using the marque are also in the website.

The use of the co-op marque has surfaced in recent “Integration Meetings” by co-op leaders.  See related article.
