The first salvo for the year-long celebration of the IYC will be a convergence of all cooperatives at the National Show of Co-operative Force (NSCF) to be held on February 18 at the Quezon City Memorial Circle.
The theme for the event is “Cooperative – A Celebration of People Empowerment & Strength of the Human Spirit.” All co-op members are invited and fifty thousand are expected to attend the convergence.
According to Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Chair, Dr. Emmanuel M. NATCCO rolls out Social Performance Management to members |

STA. MESA, MANILA – There are many instances that cooperatives boast of seven-digit assets, double-digit dividends, dozens of service offerings, a large and modern edifice for its headquarters, plus several branches – but many of its members remain poor.
How can this happen when cooperatives are supposed to uplift the lives of the poor? Wasn’t the cooperative first established to combat poverty in Europe during the Industrial Revolution?
Four departments of the National Confederation of Cooperatives, in partnership with Micro Finance Center – Poland and Microsave, have begun rolling out Social Performance Management to twelve member cooperatives nationwide, four each in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

ACDI MPC reaches out to Typhoon Sendong victims |
|

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – In the week prior to Christmas Day in 2011, Typhoon Sendong brought flashfloods that severely ravaged areas in Northern Mindanao. Entire villages were washed away leaving trails of destroyed homes, broken bridges and upended vehicles in the affected areas – especially in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City. Around 800 people were initially left for dead and 47,000 survivors huddled in evacuation centers.
While the Government and rescue teams faced risks and many hundreds of people were still missing, concerned citizens braved the dangers and started giving help to the victims. It was here that ACDI Multi-Purpose Cooperative reached out again to its fellow Filipinos.

NATCCO Trainers roll out Basic Co-op Course nationwide |

PUERTO GALERA, MINDORO ORIENTAL – Cooperatives are owned by members, and they elect from among themselves the members of the Board of Directors. This is alright . . . if the elected officers know about cooperatives.
In many cases, those elected are voted due to their popularity and not exactly knowledge, ability or leadership. The result could be disastrous for cooperatives because like any other organization, success leans on leadership.
That is why the Implementing Rules & Regulations of the Cooperative of Code of 2008 in Rule 7 Section 5 requires all directors, committee members and officers to undergo the Basic Cooperative Course (BCC) which includes topics like Origin of Coops, What is a Cooperative?, Co-op Values & Principles, the Cooperative Code of 2008 and the IRR, Leadership & Values, Strategic Planning, Parliamentary Procedure, Labor and other laws, and many more.
